A Very Sad Ending

CP smoked all his life and as a result, he developed throat cancer.  He was extremely ill and suffered from so much pain from the cancer that he took his own life by shooting himself in the head on September 7, 1945.

He still had that impish grin. My sweet grandmother had been duped twice, raised her two sons by herself, inherited her parents home and in 1945 finally divorced CP not knowing that he was already dead.

CP's obituary: Captain Chester Paul Norton was born on December 1, 1886 in Montreal, Quebec. Chester died at his residence, 30 Douglas Street here in Victoria and his body was removed via the Victoria Police Ambulance. He was an English Canadian and retired as a Kings Captain. His father was Paul Norton born in England and his mother was not listed. He was survived by his spouse, Betty; 2 daughters, Patricia and Judith and son, Paul all of the same residence as well as his cousin, Patricia Fuller.

Sad. His suffering had to be unimaginable for him to take his life. I still wonder why people smoke when they know how bad it is for them.
