Degarrotype photo

Degarrotype photo, circa 1860

One of my pioneers had this taken and brought
it across the plains. I found it in the garage
hiding in an old
trunk full of photos. I think it may be my
third great grandfather William W. Meguire
from Pennsylvania who settled in
Plain City, Utah.

Tulip Festival

Who would ever think that a gigantic amazing garden
would be planted in the middle of the dry
arid desert next to the rocky mountains?

Two of my swim friends and I had
lunch at Thanksgiving Point and
enjoyed the garden at the tulip
fest.

Anyone for red?

A little stream flows into the Monet pond
that has lilly pads. The lily pads will have
flowers later in the season.

Each year 5,000 tulips are planted. There were not all red.

View from the restaurant.

We were delighted to find that a new
section of sculptures were being
added to the gardens.
They are calling this section the
Light of the World
Garden.  Each full sized
sculpture will include a scene from the
scriptures with Christ in each
scene. Jesus walking on water and
Jesus healing the woman who
touched his robe.

Each scene was already sculpted by
Angela Johnson in
miniature surrounding Christ
walking on water.  Christ
carrying the cross was also
full size.

Places I've Been - Friday

Linking to my town shoot out and

Machinery
This photo was taken at the Anchorage Port, Alaska before digital cameras flooded the markets.  I was thoroughly fascinated with the port and the machinery moving Sea Land freight onto semi trucks to be shipped throughout Alaska. Because I had lived inland my entire life, I found myself driving down to the docks to watch the water and ships that docked.

My first thought about machinery was what do I have in my house and the only one that seemed to fit was my old Singer Sewing Machine which just happened to be the second item that I purchased just after my high school graduation.
