9 Childhood Memories

Freddie and Me

1. Running away from home at age 5 with our hunting dog "Sad Eyes".
The large dog in front was Sad Eyes.

2. Singing to a record and told not to sing by Estelle our babysitter because I sang off key.

3. Hiding in the old granary at grandma's house because I didn't want to do dishes.

4. Walking to school with my first friend Geraldine whom I never saw again after the 2nd grade because we moved to an apartment.

5. A nurse putting ether over my face with a wash rag when they took out my appendix. I remember falling and falling.

6. Dancing around the living room when I saw the first dancer's on grandma's new TV in 1950.

7. Listening to "The Creaking Door" on the radio while ironing pillow cases.

8. Using a french fry cutter in my mom's drivein.

9. My brother and I seeing a horse who could count by tapping his hoof on the ground.

I have a similar memory about having gas before my tonsils were taken out when I was about 3-4. The mask was put over my face..I could see a witch's face spinning spinning spinning as I fell. To this day the smell of rubber makes me gag.

Isnt it strange what springs to mind when you think about childhood memories? I'll have to rack my brains and come up with my 9 too!

So fun to read these, Ruth! I think I'm going to start a weekly 'memory' post because it seems to be fun for many of us to share these memories!

These are just wonderful to read! I think one of the saddest things is two little children who are best friends, then they go to a different school or move and their parents do not make an effort...their friendhship is just lost and I know a child who just mourns for her little friend. She writes her letters and says she wants to send them but doesn't know her address.

Hello Ruth...Got caught up on all your blog posts.

Isn't it amazing what we remember? It's like shining a light on our pasts.

Oh dear. Why did you want to run away from home at age 5?

FREEZING here. Just single digits. Have been by the fireplace for many hours.

Take care and thanks for all the visits to my blog. Oh! Loved the Polish girls photo. Susan

What a super post! Isn't it strange what you can remember from childhood? I remember my early years more than the later ones, I might just have a go at this:)

There's just some things which we never forget, isn't there? It's funny how our memory decided which things to hold on to and which to let go.
