Helper, a Mining Town

A small Catholic church in Helper, Utah.

Mountain reflections

Linking to InSPIRed Sunday

Helper is not a ghost town but has some very old buildings from its heydays.

Notice the residents in the upper windows.

The mountain pass of which the main highway winds through.

Churches are important parts of mining towns.

That looks like a relatively new church which is good to see for the town. Lovely scenery, too.

Love these kinds of towns. Reminds me of Springdale Utah we were in a few years ago.

"Notice the residents in the upper windows". I hope there are other alive residents in the town also. I had read about his history. Very interesting! I found out the story about Butch Cassidy who robbed the Pleasant Valley Coal Company.

Enjoyed your photos from around town. Helper is a pretty neat name for a town, but from looking on a map, some of the Western states do have some towns with great names. The "residents" in the windows remind me of a town near me, Ackley, IA. Some group worked out so that there would be nice benches in front of all the businesses downtown. But Ackley doesn't have that many people, so the benches were empty most of the time. Then one entrepreneur had the bright idea of making scarecrows/dummies that looked like each business owner to sit on the benches outside each shop. It landed Ackley in the national news, and Ackley became known as the town of dummies...I think they even had t-shirts created.
